Communities of Practice (CoP) Integrated Workshop 2023
Earth Observations to address societal and environmental challenges
NEOSS is pleased to invite you to participate in the Communities of Practice Integrated Workshop which took place on 30 May 2023, 08:30-16:00, at CSIR ICC, in Pretoria, South Africa. The objectives of the workshop are to;
Our objectives for the Integrated Communities of Practice (CoP) session are to;
- Facilitate exchange of information and interaction amongst the various CoP’s, Earth observations (EO) and space community
- Promote and learn about available technical support to develop and implement EO monitoring and space-based solutions to improve the effectiveness of early warning and detection for action in climate change
- Facilitate downscaling of global and national EO products and services for local uptake, and
- Encourage continuous exchange of ideas, experiences, and to foster engagement and collaboration amongst the community of stakeholders on how to advance adaptation plans and utilise data to inform decision making.
This will serve as a build up to the GEO Ministerial Summit to be hosted in South Africa from 06 -10 November 2023 and contribution to the national implementation of the GEO Work Program and environmental related frameworks that seek to protect and manage the natural resources, taking into consideration, a number of priority areas for our SA-GEO, SA-GSN and SA-GSC Communities of Practice (CoP’s), such as, Agriculture, Natural Resources Management, Human settlements and Spatial Planning, Satellite Communications and Navigations, Data Governance, and EO Infrastructure etc.
