Space Science and Innovation for Sustainability

The second National Space Conference (NSC) is scheduled to be held at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, from 28 – 30 August 2024. Organised by the National Earth Observations and Space Secretariat (NEOSS) and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) on behalf of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in collaboration with key national partners including the South African Air Force (SAAF), this year’s conference is dedicated to exploring "Space Science and Innovation for Sustainability. 

In an era marked by interconnected global challenges such as water scarcity, food insecurity, environmental disasters, and the energy crisis, space science and technology integration has emerged as a pivotal catalyst for sustainable development. The NSC 2024 aims to push the boundaries of knowledge and application of Space and Earth observation technologies, emphasising their critical role in enhancing decision-making processes and driving societal, economic, and environmental progress. It serves as a dynamic platform for national stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to convene, exchange ideas, and catalyse discussions on forging a sustainable space ecosystem.
